Outfit of the Day

Today was my final day of vacation. As one last hoorah, the family had a decadent brunch together before packing our bags and heading home. I had some a great time, but it's always great to come home.

Yesterday's Outfit of the Day

Yesterday was an extremely relaxing day of vacation. I started out with a spa package: massage, facial, and pedicure with my mom. Then, after getting some more rays at the beach (on a hammock), my family and I ate at an AMAZING Italian restaurant. It was probably the best food I ever had, no exaggeration.

You Are What You Eat

After a brief hiatus from GRITS, I am back to you and ready to go!! The last time we met, I told you all about the first Southern Belle symbol, magnolias... Now it's time for number two.

The kitchen is the center of Southern family life. It is where memories are made and good times are had. And honestly, who wouldn’t want to spend their time in the kitchen with their family? The laughs are almost as rich as the smell coming from the stovetop. Let’s just say, it’s called “comfort food” for a reason: fried chicken, cornbread, fried green tomatoes, biscuits and gravy. All of these dishes are made possible by the Iron Skillet. For a southern belle, the iron skillet represents the flavor that makes our neck of the woods so warm and inviting. Not only is it essential to our cuisine, but it also a treasure heirloom, representing a family’s customs, heritage, and accomplishment. Many of fights between sisters have been waged over who would inherit the family skillet and, in turn, help continue the family name.

The cast iron skillets are nothing like what you would find in Target or any other superstore. A work of art, a true skillet is handcrafted. You can always tell your iron skillet is genuine by finding its "scar." Although sometimes though of as a blemish, the scar is actually a mark of authenticity and adds to its character.

Iron skillets are a crucial tool for southern women everywhere. They symbolize the family name and help personify the etiquette and appearance portrayed by that family. Like the belles who cook with them, they get better with age and no two skillets are identical. They each have their own scrapes and dents with stories to go with them. A true southern belle is packed with flavor and character, just like the food they serve to their loved ones. In closing, I provided a perfect example of an outfit that a southern belle could wear while cooking for their guests. Remember, no one should ever leave a southern house with an empty stomach.

Future Friday: Cars

I've decided to start a new segment called Future Fridays. It's basically my rants and ramblings, me thinking about the future. I'm a dreamer. So, I often daydream about what the future has in store for me.

The first installment is all about cars. I currently drive a Ford Focus. It has served me very well, through car accidents and driving all around Tallahassee. However, I have the need for a bigger car, something that can give me a little more height while driving down the interstate.

The first car on my list is the classic Range Rover. Whenever I see this car on the road, I always swoon. I would get either Navy or Black, but definitely tan interior.

The other car on my list is the Chevy Tahoe, also know as the "Frathoe" for those involved with Greek life. I see these all over campus, usually in black with black interior. For this particular car, I would want a stark white (still with the tan interior).

Of course with all of these cars, the future hubby would have to be matching. By that I mean same brand and color. How cute would that be?

So, what do you think about Future Fridays? I hope I'm not the only dreamer out there.
What sorts of cars do you have in mind?

Outfit of the Day

Today, my family and I had a lovely family dinner at a Caribbean restaurant called Bermudas. It's always great to be able to sit down as a family. We always have so many laughs, sometimes too many.

Outfit of the Vacation

Sorry I haven't been posting as regularly as I used to. I just wanted to share with you my staple outfit while tanning it up on the beach. The top is from my TAVIK, a California swimsuit company that my cousin works for. The bottoms are obviously Lilly, it seems that I can't go a day without adding some Lilly Pulitzer to the mix!!!

Fall Must Haves

Although I'm on my first day of vacation, I can't help but start thinking about what I will be wearing this fall. I came up with following that I'm just dying to add to my closet.
Fall Must Haves
  1. Red Lipstick: Just a little dash of this stuff adds class and sass to even the drabbest of outfits.
  2. Hermes Silk Scarf: By channeling Jackie Kennedy, you can instantly look an incognito celebrity when you wrap this around your head. Or, for more polished look, tie the scarf around the collar of your shirts.
  3. Navy Blazer: I'm ashamed that I still don't have one of this in my prep arsenal. I can't seem to find the right cut that doesn't make me look like a flight attendant. However, once I do find I'll be pairing it with khaki skinny pants and riding boots for an equestrian-chic look.
  4. Quilted Chain-Link Handbag: Available in many different colors, these bags are very versatile. They are appropriate from anything to football games, church, or a night on the town.
  5. Cigarette Cut Jeans: A very popular cut in France, you will be the stylish girl in town with these jeans. They look good with everything!!
  6. Statement Necklace: Having a problem picking out an outfit? Have no fear!! By pairing a bright and colorful necklace with a simple white tee, you can feel fun and confident no matter the occasion.
  7. Driving Loafers: These shoes are perfect for walking around campus!! They are super comfy, but are still chic enough to make a statement.
  8. Cowboy Boots: If you are a Southern girl, like me, you know the importance of  owning a pair of cowboy boots. They surprisingly match any sundress that you possible have hanging in your wardrobe.
What will you be buying for this fall season?
