Fall Must Haves

Although I'm on my first day of vacation, I can't help but start thinking about what I will be wearing this fall. I came up with following that I'm just dying to add to my closet.

1. Red Lipstick: Just a little dash of this stuff adds class and sass to even the drabbest of outfits. 
2. Hermes Silk Scarf: By channeling Jackie Kennedy, you can instantly look an incognito celebrity when you wrap this around your head. Or, for more polished look, tie the scarf around the collar of your shirts. 
3. Navy Blazer: I'm ashamed that I still don't have one of this in my prep arsenal. I can't seem to find the right cut that doesn't make me look like a flight attendant. However, once I do find I'll be pairing it with khaki skinny pants and riding boots for an equestrian-chic look.
4. Quilted Chain-Link Handbag: Available in many different colors, these bags are very versatile. They are appropriate from anything to football games, church, or a night on the town.
5. Cigarette Cut Jeans: A very popular cut in France, you will be the stylish girl in town with these jeans. They look good with everything!! 
6. Statement Necklace: Having a problem picking out an outfit? Have no fear!! By pairing a bright and colorful necklace with a simple white tee, you can feel fun and confident no matter the occasion.
7. Driving Loafers: These shoes are perfect for walking around campus!! They are super comfy, but are still chic enough to make a statement.
8. Cowboy Boots: If you are a Southern girl, like me, you know the importance of  owning a pair of cowboy boots. They surprisingly match any sundress that you possible have hanging in your wardrobe.

Outfit of the Day

With huge sunglasses and a scarf like this, you would probably think I was a huge celebrity or on the run from the law. But my blatant choice to over accessorize quickly dispels any myths. I was in a very whimsical mood today when I went to lunch with aCj. Maybe that's what lead me in and out of store looking for the perfect sun hat. And when I say perfect, I actually mean "out of this world huge." No luck finding it though. I guess this means it's just baseball caps for me when I go on our family beach vacation tomorrow.

Luck and Matchbooks

I have always been a huge fan of fashion magazines of any kind. I have always found so much inspiration whist flipping through glossy page after glossy page. This obsession started in my youth when I needed to get away from immaturity that ran wild in middle school. Now, I read fashion magazines for pretty much the same reasons, only this time I need to escape the trashy outfits I see while walking around a college campus. 

While I love to read the editorials in Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, the fashion found in their pages seemed a little too out of reach for me (and the prices, WOW!), However, Lucky Magazine, to me, always seemed more realistic and practical. The first issue I ever picked up was in September 2004 when I was at the gym. Among a see of dull looking Times and Newsweek, the bright teal cover featuring Milla Jovovich seemed like an oasis in a desert of drab. I snatched up the magazine and instantly feel in love. 

Seven years later, I eagerly await the new issue every month, always curious to see how I will be inspired to add to a little zest to my extremely conservative and preppy wardrobe. The magazine is currently in it's tenth year of print. What an accomplishment! But, what makes this magazine different then all of the other fashions mags out there? Maybe it has something to do the way that it is written, sounding more like a friend giving fashion advice than anything. Maybe it's the fun monthly articles such as My Foolproof Outfit or Trend in the Making. Whatever the reason, I know that this magazine has a bright future, inspiring women of all ages for years to come. 

Another rising star in the magazine world is a newcomer using the internet as its medium. Matchbook Magazine almost seems to made specifically for the prep-set with its witty sense of humor and familiar fashion icons and designers. Although less than a year old, it has become a staple read for fashion-istas everywhere. I particular love their book reviews and monthly calendar of quirky events.  I desperately wish this magazine was available in print form so I could display them around my apartment, but I give them snaps for being earth friendly.

Outfit of the Day

The honeymoon is over. Today my mom put me to her work at her swim supply store, All-American Aquatics. I don't mind though, I love meeting all of the local swimmers!!

Sweet Magnolias

There are three important symbols that represent the character and demeanor of Southern women. The first is the beautiful Magnolia Tree that represents our strength and resilience. 

The magnolia tree is not only a thing of beauty, a staple in many a southern home, but it also tough and is able to stand the hardest of conditions. Magnolia trees also offer a welcoming area of shade for all who want to relax under its fragrant flower, so much shade that grass is unable to grow around it's base. By not letting grass grow around us, we can take a lesson from the magnolia tree by always staying on the go and living life to the fullest. 

Next, the term "Steel Magnolia" is always in the Southern Belle Dictionary. What does it mean? A Steel Magnolia is any southern women who has gone through her share of strife with dignity and her head held high. They are strong, tenacious, and very wise. Hollywood is always on a never-ending quest to capture a steel magnolia's charm and grace. They can be so inspiring. Such "Steel Movie Icons" are Steel Magnolias, The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Fried Green Tomatoes, and the original, Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind. 

In the south, the beauty of the magnolia is found everywhere. From the blooming trees that line front yards of magnificent plantation style houses to the strong women who make them home, 'Steel Magnolias' will always be a part of the South's rich past, present, and future. In closing, I have included a classy outfit that every Belle can wear with confidence, even in the deep south humidity.

Yesterday's Outfit of the Day

Yesterday was my first day off from swimming in A YEAR!! To celebrate, I decided to sleep in and take aCj to see Captain America. I really enjoyed it, Chris Evans was really dreamy!!! 

Afterwards, we went to Moe's for dinner followed by some brief shopping at TJ-Maxx. While there I bought a Lilly Pulitzer pajama tunic and this Vineyard Vine Skirt. I already have the perfect game day outfit planned out for it!

G.R.I.T.S.

What do Laura Bush, Sandra Bullock, Paula Deen, and Reese Witherspoon all have in common? Well, besides fame, poise, and charm, they are all G.R.I.T.S.

I'm not talking about that classic breakfast dish. This is all about Girls Raised In The South. Inspired by Deborah Ford's handbook, The G.R.I.T.S. Guide to Life, I decided to take just over a month to share all of the lessons that a Southern Belle needs to know. This book is perfect for every girl who dreams of living below the Mason Dixon Line or the southern girl who just needs a little reminder of what makes our little corner of the United States so wonderful.

So, stay tuned!! There will be more lessons to come. And, as a little more incentive to be good readers, there will be a little give-away when my month long rant is over.
